In 2024, a mom and her daughter had crossed a gap through the Southern U.S border wall into Otay Mesa, California. The opening was a few hours' walk from the area where Border Patrol agents were transporting people to nearby processing centers--the very spot where I snapped the photo. The little girl, who looked about my niece's age, showed signs of immense fatigue along with dirt on her face that she gathered on the rough journey she had. The eyes, they never lie. I have no clue where the girl is, but I hope and pray that she is okay.
