My work evolved from an early awareness that just as it is possible to have content without subject, it is possible to have context without subject. Put differently, context defines – and simply is, even if there is no subject. An exploration of relationships, influences, inter-dependencies: an image only exists in our consciousness and we can observe it being formed, gradually, while standing in front of one of these large size prints. While photography based and always composed in camera, this work owes more to painting and perhaps music both in terms of creative process and in the way it is experienced as a viewer. Seen small, structure dominates, sadly: seen the wall, it is what is "in between" that becomes what one engages with; infinite variations within a narrow color range allow matter, light and color to become interchangeable; space becomes intimate and meditative regardless of it's actual scale
