Callaocarpino and James Illanes Festivity

Callaocarpino and James Illanes is a festivity that takes place at the end of each year, between 30 December and 2 January in Chaccllatacana 4 km. away from the the city of Huancavelica, Peru. According to the tradition, there are two children, one with blonde hair with blue eyes and the other dark eyes and dark hair, who appeared in the pampas of Chaccllatana near the Santa Barbara mine. The festival is held for four days in Huancavelica, where a huge pilgrimage to the ancient town of Chaccllatana takes place. During the festival of ‘Los Negritos’ a gang composed of a variety of characters called Negritos, for example the mother and father who are respectivly the Waqra Senga or Caporal and Maria Rosa or Marica. The partipants who wear the tradicional costume are usually male, and can be seen dancing energetically during the days of the festival.
