MARSHLAND The marshland is a landscape loaded with tragedies since centuries: Flood-catastrophes, hunger, discrimination and isolation. The majority of the abandoned farmhouses are blinded. Windows and doors were bricked. Just a few people stay here voluntary. The energy/expression of the young men is like the landscape where he lives: marked by violence. (COMMENT / Suspicion by the photographer: The social-cultural context of the region which is demined by unemployment, alcoholism, violence, low education level and tensions, like wise the clothes of the young men are making me consider that he may be a part of neo-nazi circles. His beating-marks could be a result of conflicts outside his house o provoked my domestic violence. ) The photo MARSHLAND deals about the interdependent relationship of landscape and people. KEYFACTS: fine arte photography / candid / North Germany / 2015 AWARD: * Honorable mention at „THE FAMILY OF MEN“ by IPA-International Photography Awards, professional competition category © Kirstin Schmitt
