My source of inspiration is Offerings, a way of the veneration of the dead. The element of fire is crucial to this shoot as the offerings are burned for the dead. The look of fire is achieved through lighting in a single shot, without digital manipulation. My treatment of the shoot is “Metropolis meets Cubism.” I am referring to Metropolis, a German expressionist science-fiction film directed in 1927 by Fritz Lang. As for Cubism, I am picking up the element whereby objects are broken up and reassembled in an abstracted form. In Cubism, most of the artwork appears flat and two-dimensional. I decided to make it three-dimensional Cubism. The opening shot is abstract and mysterious. The shot climaxed with a close up of her appearing to be engulfed in flames. In the final shot, she has transformed from a human adorned with paper offerings to a paper effigy.
