Saudade is a documentary feature film (in post production) investigating themes of identity, memory and loss as they relate to genealogy – and specifically to adoption – via intimate, autobiographical storytelling. This project aims to incorporate multi-generational still and moving image making – from traditional family archives, to complex social media based virtual landscapes – as a means of communication and preservation along intersecting lineages. Multimedia platforms serve as a vehicle for new media narrative storytelling. Raised by a Mexican migrant worker and an Italian cop, after a lifetime of searching, I locate my birth-family. Filming, a means of reflexivity and repentance, I retrace family footsteps and (re)discover my paternal Portuguese lineage, my terminally ill birth-mother, my homeless brother, and my estranged adoptive parents. The search for identity under a shroud of secrecy. password: saudade
