Sudan, the last male Northern White Rhinoceros in the world with his armed Rangers on Ol Pejeta Conservancy in north Kenya. It was hoped that Sudan might be able to breed with a northern white or a southern white rhino also at the conservancy but at 43 years old he is weak and the breeding program hasn't been successful. Only 3 Northern White Rhinos remain in the world protected by armed guards at Ol Pejeta. In a last effort to save the subspecies scientists have harvested sex cells from the rhinos for in vitro fertilisation in a related southern white rhino surrogate, a plan that is expected to take more than a decade.
