Photographs taken in Kobane, Syria a year after the city was liberated from a 5 months ISIS siege.
Every day we see photos of war, and destruction, and death. We have desensitized ourselves to the humanity linked to extreme situations such as civil wars and armed conflicts, we often forget that the people we are looking at in photographs are human, just like we are.
Through this series of photos, I wish to inspire the viewers to understand what creates war, who is affected by war, and what are some of the direct consequences of war, without actually showing war.
In the dreary aftermath of a siege by ISIS, personal belongings of both inhabitants and attackers are strewn across the city of Kobane, Syria. In showing some of these belongings, and engins of war, I wish to remind us that the people who have suffered so much are just like us, men, women, children.
