Entry Description

This series combines landscape and wildlife, for which reason I am submitting it as Nature (Other). The subject is a kind of environmental wildlife photography, in which the world of snow and ice that the penguins inhabit is as important as the birds themselves. These images were shot on a trip to the Antarctic Peninsula in late 2016.

About Photographer

I was born in London, grew up in New York City, and have lived in southern California for many years. During a successful academic career in the humanities, I wrote and taught about the history and cultural power of images but now I pursue my calling as a photographer full time. I work in a number of photographic genres, including cityscape, environmental portrait, travel and night photography, but whatever the genre, most of my work is focused on the documentation and interpretation of culture. My work has been exhibited in shows in London, Paris, Madrid, Copenhagen, and Buenos Aires as well as in California, Colorado, and Ohio; and has been published in LensWork, Black & White, COLOR, and other fine art photography publications; it has also been featured in Condé Nast Traveler, Lonely Planet Traveller, Digital Camera, and Art and Design (Beijing). I was named 2010 Professional Photographer of the Year by the World Photography Gala Awards and 2011 Travel Photographer of the Year by TPOTY in London.
