The inspiration for these photographs is the exquisite and unique beauty of the N.S.W. Snowy Mountain landscape. All the images are composites of a number of exposures taken over a period of time, either at dawn or dusk, using a tripod. Torch light has been used to illuminate the subject and then is selectively combined with natural light to achieve the final result. I believe that light painting is especially effective in revealing the delicate (and easily overlooked) features of the landscape.
I have been an active landscape photographer for thirteen years. For the past five years I have specialised in the area of light painting. Currently I am inspired to combine the light from LED panels with the available or ambient light (captured from earlier exposures taken before or after sunset). The result is a kind of augmented reality that reveals the beauty of the subject within its natural setting. The effect is somewhat painterly but benefits from the richness of detail and veracity that photography naturally provides.
