Now in its 131st first year, Rydal Sports Day attracts runners, riders, wrestlers and hound owners from across the county and beyond now it seems.
There were some "imposters" this year from Cycle Club Ashwell, Hertfordshire, who rode off with most of the top honours in the grass track races.
No matter, the traditional sports of fell running, hound trailing / racing, Westmoreland and Cumberland wrestling plus more familiar short-track running races, namely the 60m, 100m, 400m, sack-race and others continued uninterrupted by these usurpers.
Plans are afoot to swamp and dominate the grass track cycle races in 2018 by CCA, only time will tell.

Biography
“The (English) Lake District, when it is fine, and is at least that, is surely the most beautiful place on Earth". BB - 2015
Who am I to contradict Bill Bryson? So, I moved there in 2015, on the back of his sage advice & bought an art gallery.
1990, a London based postgrad' in photojournalism, working for most of the Nationals (daily papers), then moving into business & representing several photographers in the N London area circa mid 90’s / early 00’s, swapping Yorkshire via Herts for the Lake District National Park.
2022, I now represent 85 artists. And occasionally take pictures.

Awards
To come - I need to compile them.
It's not really my strong suit, I do the work & I shoot my own projects, I enter competitions, moving onwards to the next project even before the awards are announced.
I appreciate that seems dismissive, it's not, it's anything but, this year alone I have probably spent almost £1500 on entering 4x international photographic competition is, it's just you're always looking in the rearview mirror at what you've already done and then achieved and then been awarded.
My emphasis is and has been for four years, my other artists, my art gallery, seeing a 20% increase year-on-year has been a realised passion, my photography has taken something of a secondary importance.
Indeed I am probably more engaged with the visual arts, on how to see things and how to articulate and their possible meanings than I ever have been, buying and running in our gallery has probably propelled me forward into an arena I would never have otherwise achieved.
But you can't turn off, and it can really drain your energy reserves working every day, 15 hours a day, it's exhausting but also rewarding!
