One of the most beautiful elements in pictures, and in life, is contrast. This collection of images was taken during the solar eclipse on August 21st, 2017 in Charleston, SC. Perhaps most interesting is the image in the center with the extended shutter/lens “drift”, which accentuates the sun’s prominences and creates an “eye” for the beholder. All of these are previously unpublished/unshared images, debuting in this International Photography Awards (ipa) submission. They are all unedited, except for minor adjustments in sharpness, and of course - contrast.
I am a 3rd generation photo-hobbyist (thanks Mom and Pop-Pop), and grew up with cameras, film, or tripod always nearby. Favorite subjects to compose and shoot include nature, sports, and landscapes –with a particular passion in capturing movement and motion. Most of my training has been through trial-and-error, self-education and study, and on-line mentorships. Although I have not yet enjoyed formal training, the technical and artistic aspects of photography continually motivate and intrigue me. My current camera body is a Canon 7D Mark ii, my favorite presets are the "Detail extractor" and “Pro-contrast” in Google Nix. I live in Arlington, VA with my wife Cristin and two children – Sarah and Liam.
