The headquarters of the Iberê Foundation is the only work in Brazil by the most important Portuguese architect, Siza Vieira. Like Siza, the main Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer, also has only one work in Portugal, a hotel on Madeira Island. Upon realizing this coincidence, I photographed the buildings. Although distinct, both essays choose to extract geometric fractions, formal subtleties, from each one instead of showing them in full. The resulting shapes promote an abstract dialogue between these two great modernists, one of a more silent nature, the other of a more eloquent expression.
