Kenya has faced unprecedented flooding in recent years and rain cycles have become unpredictable. Farmers are struggling to make ends meet and casual work is drying up. Climate change poses a greater risk to those who already live in poverty. One especially vulnerable population are those living in flood zones. When their crops flood, they don’t have enough to eat, let alone enough to sell to make a profit. Latrines overflow and sickness spreads through neighborhoods. Children drop out of school, families go hungry, and more people are driven into poverty.
