Biography

Markus Naarttijärvi is a photographer and a legal scholar. He grew up in Kiruna in the north of Sweden and worked as a photojournalist and freelancer for a number of Swedish daily newspapers before pursuing an academic career. He now works as a professor of law at Umeå university, Sweden researching and teaching constitutional law and human rights. Markus’s long term photographic projects focuses on documenting industry, nature and culture in the north of Sweden, exploring themes of solitude, perseverance, and the passage of time.
