Angelika Hala Two figures, ghostlike, bearing olive branches like peace doves. The privacy of a bedroom not safe enough to show their faces. It is a strong image, invites the viewer to reflect and interpret.
Aspired by the story of a Palestinian woman and an Israeli man, the picture shows two people, staged as peace doves, sitting in the living room of their house in West Bank. They first met in Jerusalem, at the house she was working as a maid, where they felt in love. He moved with her to the camp, but were only able to marry after his convertion to Islam. For long he was suspected to be an Israeli spy by the camp community. Nevertheless, they raised two boys. One day he left the house bound to Jerusalem, where he died. The son took his place on this photograph, sitting next to his mother.
