The town of Val d'Or, located in the province of Quebec, Canada, as its name suggests, was developed with the arrival of gold prospectors in 1933-1934. In the summer of 2024, I decided to take a series of photographs of the mine tailings found in the area around this town. I was surprised to see the different colors and textures produced by the presence of minerals such as copper sulfate and the oxidation of sulfide minerals. Despite the abstract beauty of these phenomena, they are also a sign of environmental problems in particularly the contamination of local ecosystems.
