Forgotten Garífuna People - BLM!
BLM, also in Central America where the Garífuna live; an Afro-Honduran ethnic group of former slaves! Garífuna live in poverty and face discrimination and violence. There are no jobs and migration and hunger is widespread. The is only micro-stores that sell “fast-food 2.0,” i.e. small bags of cookies and chips with no nutritional value. Children go out to try to find food, including small fish. These Black communities have the least infrastructure of all in the region and all young Garífuna dream of leaving, but violence and start-money keep many back. Garífuna and communities are forgotten.

Biography
Dorte’s photography focuses on people that have little voice. Dorte captures their beauty and strength through intimate moments. Dorte's portfolio centers on environmental portraits, with images inspired by the life and livelihood of people living in extreme situations and in remote locations. Many are affected by climate change, which they have contributed little to. Dorte was born in Denmark and is a Photographer and Development Practitioner, holds a PhD in economics, and is a Fellow in the Explorers Club.

Awards
Dorte has received a few awards for her photographs, including (i) Nikon's Grand Prize for Most Popular Entry at Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017 for the Moken fisherman image and (ii) Winner 3rd prize, 2021 Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year for the series: Bring Home the harvest - Wonder Children. Dorte has won the Photographer five times in the last decade awarded by the International Photography Society. She has also won awards from IPA, e.g. first prize in a category: 2020, Forgotten Garífuna People - BLM; 2018, Wonder Girls and Women - The African Refugee Crisis and also 2018, Disappearing Wodaabe People and Culture. Finally, Dorte has won one of the top prizes inn specific categories in Prix de la Photographie (Px3), e.g. 2020, Black life Matters -Also for Garifuna People; 2019, The Last Layap Hat Maker in Bhutan; and 2018, Moving Sand.
Her work is published in books, magazines, and the new papers, e.g. GEO, Vanity Fair, the Times, and the Sun. Her photographs are featured in solo and group exhibits, and are on permanent display in, e.g. The Nikon and other museums and International Organizations on cities around the world, such as in Kampala, Nairobi, Nouakchott, Tokyo, and Washington D.C.
