Having upgraded my iPhone to the one with a three lens camera, I wanted to see what the camera would do with my macro photographs of reflected light. I set up a still life in a SW facing window and waited for the sun to filter through the vessels. The following photos are a few of the images I captured that day. What struck me most are the images where the camera is able to capture both the light anomaly and a hint of the vessel or background in the same shot. Being at different focal lengths, it would be difficult to capture such depth within a single close-up with a macro lens.

Story

In 2005 my artwork entirely transformed when the shadow of a cross form appeared in a rectangle of amber light on the wall in my living room. Every day for weeks, this cross appeared with no origin. I documented this anomaly with my camera, and in my acknowledgment of it, the light over a series of weeks moved, taking me around the room, coaxing me to look closer. Turning on the macro on my point and shoot camera, I came across a depth of beauty that moved my soul. Since that day, I have been chasing after rays of light with a camera searching for meaning, beauty, and metaphor.

A lifetime of seeking what I believe in has brought me to this ongoing project of exploring light as a metaphor for a sea of living consciousness, and the possibility of life continuing as pure energy after death.

I am inspired by literature, research about creativity, followed by astronomy, physics, and science fiction, mixed with shamanism and spirituality, out of body experiences, philosophy, and books that describe the afterlife. My works also stem from multiple points in art history: the abstract expressionists from painting—pictorialism from photography and, the light art of Thomas Wilfred's Lumia series.

At the core of my artistic practice is a deep curiosity about the mystery and joy of the creative process. I desire to create artworks that resonate deeply within the human spirit. Touching on something that seems familiar and comforting, as if receiving a forgotten glimpse into the place where inspiration comes from. To that end, I find myself attracted to expansive compositions. Ones that spark the imagination, immersing you in a feeling of aliveness and awe at the interconnectedness of life.

It is my highest aspiration to create artwork that resonates deeply within you. I ask you to take a moment to be with these pieces of art, breathe in the imagery, let your eyes sink into the color, and allow the images to touch your soul, as they have touched mine.
