The National Guard was stationed on the streets of downtown Los Angeles with the LAPD during June 2020 after the initial violent demonstrations around the U.S. that immediately followed the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. On this day, Black Lives Matter supporters of many races and ages joined together peacefully to demand racial equity and justice in an event that started on the steps of City Hall as they faced heavily militarized law enforcement.
