Caroline Metcalfe a powerful and insightful set of images that reveal a 'hidden' world of domestic violence that is sadly all too prevalent. I think the fact that this photographer got the captions to accompany the images is important, together they show the power of 'photo-journalism'. I hope this work will encourage a much higher awareness that will provoke a movement for change

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, a CDC survey from 2015 found that 1 in 4 women and one in ten men experience intimate partner violence (IPV). The abuses come in various forms, from verbal to sexual. "It Was Just this Time" is a photoessay portraying survivors of domestic violence. The project's ethos intends to bring awareness on the issues involving domestic violence and celebrate the resilience of those able to break from such a vicious cycle while, hopefully, sending a message of encouragement and hope to victims still suffering from IPV.
