Monique Fiso is a modern day food warrior, taking Maori cuisine to the world. The images in the book hiakai illustrates the native New Zealand ingredients utilised throughout, hunter/ gathering methods and recipes utilising the gathered ingredients. Her work is something hugely important for the New Zealand food and restaurant scene, but also for NZ food tourism, general NZ culture and identity. She has hugely contributed to putting the New Zealand restaurant scene on the world map and continues to do so.
