On December 11, 2012, just three days before the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down an Illinois law that makes it the only state in the union to prohibit the carrying of loaded firearms in public. The court gave the state until June 8, 2013, to pass "right-to-carry" legislation. Meanwhile, to the astonishment of some and the delight of others, members of the Illinois pro-gun group "GunsSaveLife.com" promote their eponymous agenda, leavening a debate about the use of deadly force with a brand of humor deeply rooted in the American gun culture.
