My final major project was based on the abandonment, I travelled to the Ukraine and spent two days in Chernobyl, capturing images which reveal the devastation of Pripyat, following the nuclear disaster in 1986. 50,000 people were evacuated and re-housed in Kiev, leaving Pripyat to become a ghost town. This catastrophic disaster affected many European countries as the nuclear fallout was carried across in the atmosphere. Mostly affected was Belarus, which borders with Ukraine in the north, where babies were born with severe defects, due to the radiation contamination contracted by the inhabitants of Chernobyl surrounding areas.
