Banger racing is a motor sport popular among working class communities in the UK. The sport involves modifying old scrapped road cars and other vehicles to be raced around short oval or figure 8 circuits. Banger racing is a contact motor sport with racers attempting to immobilise their opponent on their way to the chequered flag. It differs from other contact motor sports such as Destruction Derby, in which the aim is to be the last car standing, with bangers the goal is still to cross the finish line in first place.
