When I visit zoos I struggle between the pleasure I get and knowing that my transient and incomplete wildlife experience is most likely at the expenses of them having permanently lost their wilderness experience, or indeed never actually having had one. I battle between 'The safety of the zoo with all it's confines', versus 'The freedom of the jungle with all it's dangers', and knowing that whilst some zoos help species survival - directly and indirectly - what cost must an individual pay for the benefit of the many?
