During the IRAN-IRAQ WAR (1980-1988), many Iranian youths, some as young as 14, were sent to the frontline to fight and many were martyred. In Iran today, one can still feel the deep veneration that the Islamic Republic holds for these martyrs. Billboards of martyrs can be found in all cities of Iran and special days of mourning are reserved for them.
