Sayaka Ikemoto I think it is an important theme, “ how much we all care for the beings weaker than ourselves”, and I really think, domestic dogs and domestic cats are beings that the human beings are responsible for, in other words they are not wild animals and should not be abandoned or left to live out on the streets. I appreciate this work because this is not just bringing up the subject but I also see the kind- hearted view of the photographer, and would love to see the continued work on cats, and other abandoned pets as well.
Abandoned Chronicling the Journeys of Once-Forsaken Dogs was a decade-long project, which chronicles the lives of approximately 60 dogs, illuminating each one's journey from a shelter or rescue organization to a loving, permanent home. I initially met and photographed each dog shortly after they entered a shelter or rescue organization, and then again approximately a year after being adopted. The juxtaposition of the "before and after" photographs illustrate the profound benefits of animal adoption for both dogs and humans alike. I hope this work compels viewers to adopt and rescue dogs.
