Sayaka Ikemoto I think the photographer would need a strong will and determination in order to do this kind of photographing and so, seeing it as an important record of something very important to us all, reminding us that we are part of the food chain but has the special position of controlling the rest of the world, or to say it differently, we are part of the animal world and no different from the predators chasing and killing prey, I think the theme is something we should not hide our eyes from and should be seen and known to many people and the wide audience. I praise the mentally hard work and the courage of picking the theme and would like to see more of the work continued in more different parts of the world.
Slaughter has existed as long as man has existed and is carried out with procedures that depend on the territories, traditions, culture. I have already gone to take photographs at various types of slaughterhouses, from artisanal to industrial, in Mexico, Argentina and Italy. The goal is not to denounce or make judgments, but to show what is usually hidden, including the palpable presence of death and the silence of the operators who move like robots. It is an experience that involves almost all our senses, is invasive and also forces us to reflect on aspects relating to our own existence.
