Photographing live birds is exciting and surprising. They are intelligent, mysterious creatures. The gaze of the animal is important in the images. I think the cross observing in the shooting situation is well preserved in many of the images – I look at the bird and the bird looks at me. I work together with scientists who study the birds. My studio is located near the study sites, it’s outside in the nature. My photographic work is linked to the tradition of staged photography, portraiture and to the still life tradition in visual art as well as to the tradition of scientific illustration.
